Get Up Early to Catch the Sunrise

Although getting up early may not be the top thing on your list to do this vacation, we can think of one reason to set that alarm for 5 in the morning – the sunrise! The sunrise from Maui, either right on the beach, on the mountain, or through the town, is truly life changing. We recommend waking up in the dark and heading to Haleakala Crater to see the sun come over the clouds drifting apart in the distance and settling on the mountains. Or wake up early, head for an early morning surf, and watch the sunrise over the water. We promise you won’t be disappointed!

Head to Church

You may not be the most religious person in the world, but going to one of Maui’s many churches is a great way to see the island, check out some old buildings, and pay respect to the culture of the area. We recommend going to Waiola Church Lahaina Town to see the beginning point of Catholicism and Christianity on this unique island. Or visit the Keawalai’ Church in Makena to catch the Easter Sunrise Service at 7:30 in the morning. Not only can you say a prayer for your loved ones, but you can admire the beautiful architecture, meet some locals, and start the day on a wholesome note.

Dig into a Filling and Healthy Island Brunch

Hawaii is known for its fresh fruit, mouthwatering seafood, ice-cold beer, and large serving sizes. So, of course, Easter brunch is going to be one of the top things to do this holiday weekend! After a fulfilling morning full of exercise, sunrises, and church, it is finally time for what everyone has been waiting for – food!

For those who are staying in the southern part of Maui, we recommend going to Kihei Caffe. There are endless items that you can order while you’re here, and all of them are a great choice! We recommend getting the Irish Eggs Benedict with corned beef hash and grilled tomatoes if you are in the mood for something European influenced. Or try the sweet and mouthwatering French toast with your choice of bananas, coconut, pineapple, or macadamia nuts. For those who want a seafood feast for brunch, you can’t go wrong with the Lox and Bagel or the Blackened Fish and eggs with your daily fish perfectly seasoned and grilled.

On the northwestern part of Maui, you can’t go wrong with a Sunday morning trip to The Gazebo. They Gazebo doesn’t take reservations so allow yourself up to an hour to wait in line to be seated. It is well worth the wait! The Gazebo is a traditional American restaurant that serves up huge breakfast and brunch plates that are sure to have you full all day long. We recommend getting one of the ‘Eggstraordinary’ dishes, like the eggs benedict with ham, fried rice plate with meat and veggies, or the breakfast burrito with Mexican-influenced spices, green pepper, tomato, pepper jack cheese, and ham.

Burn Off That Hefty Brunch

Last but not least, one of the top activities to do during Easter weekend with your friends or family is to go for a nice, long hike! The weather on Maui is perfect all year round, but spring time really is the ideal time to visit. It is slightly cold in the morning, warm in the daytime, and has a cool breeze in the evening. It is the perfect season to spend all day outside, go for a hike, and break a sweat.

While you are on Maui, there are tons of outdoor activities and exercises that you can do to stay fit and healthy during your weekend away. We recommend going on one of the many hikes around the island, like Haleakala National Park to reach the top of the crater and view the clouds over the mountaintops, Hana to see the flowing waterfall cascading around the cave and the pool, or Makawao to see the lush green forests and the large trees.
