Kamaole Beach Park

Maui has its share of world class white sand beaches, and there’s no doubt you’ll be doing some beach hopping while on the island. Kamaole Beach Park is located in the Kihei area of central Maui, easily accessible from many parts of the island. This popular beach is actually made up of three beaches aptly named Kam I, Kam II, and Kam III. Though similar in looks and size, each of the beaches offers some different characteristics that may make you consider which would be best for your family or group. Whichever you choose, Kamaole Beach Park won’t disappoint!

Kam I

As is often the case in Hawaii, this beach goes by multiple names and is also known as Charley Young Beach. Charley Young beach features many rocky points throughout the water, making it a great destination for snorkeling. This beach offers two parking lots and is popular with residents.

Kam II

This beach is situated in the center and is more developed, with the Maui Banyan situated along the shoreline. You’ll also find good swimming and snorkeling conditions along this wide stretch of sand.

Kam III

Though this is the smallest of the three Kamaole beach Maui beaches, it also tends to be the most popular. The consistent waves here make it great for boogie boarding and body surfing. You’ll also find plenty of parking here, as well as facilities such as bathrooms, showers, and a playground. The large grassy area is popular for lawn games and picnicking.

Though referred to as three separate beaches, it is possible to walk from one end to the other, experiencing all three. The three beaches are connected by rocky points that can be scrambled over, creating a beautiful 1.5 mile walk along the coastline (one-way).

Pack your beach gear, snorkel gear, and a picnic lunch, and plan to spend a full day enjoying the beauty of Kamaole beach in Maui. From the shoreline, you’ll enjoy picturesque views of Molokini, Kaho’olawe and Lana’i islands. Whether your speed is to soak up plenty of sunshine as you lounge along the shoreline or you’d prefer to plan an active day in the water, you can take your pick at Kamaole Beach Park. For those staying in the popular Kaanapali Beach area, Kamaole Beach Park is just a 45-minute drive away, making it a perfect day trip!
