Beaches

Slaughterhouse Beach

What to expect: Sandy beach with lava cliff on each side lined with pine trees. Sandy bottom ocean. Similar to DT Flemmings, but more secluded. Be cautious when entering the water as there are no lifeguards.
When to go: Summer months are most calm. Winter can have large shorebreak.
Directions: Head north on Honoapiilani Hwy past Kapalua. One turn after the coconut caboose you'll see parking on the ocean side of the road and a staircase heading down the cliff. Park and follow the staircase to the beach.

DT Fleming Beach

What to expect: Large bay with lava fingers on both sides of the bay. Sandy bottom ocean. Boogie boarding and body surfing. Lifeguards are present during normal hours of the day.
When to go: Summer months are most calm. Winter can have large shorebreak and large rip currents.
Directions: Head north on Honoapiilani Hwy past Kapalua. Heading down the hill past Kapalua, turn right into the signs for DT Flemming. Hard to miss! park in the free beach park parking at the end.

Napili Bay

What to expect: Large open bay, sandy beach. Tidepools to walk around and some reefs for snorkeling. Often there are turtles on the south end of the bay.
When to go: Mostly calm year round. Watch for large winter swells.
Directions: Head north on Honoapiilani Hwy. Turn left on Napilihau St., the right onto Lower Honoapiilani Rd. Turn right and park along Hui Dr. If street parking is full, then park alon Lower Honoapiilani Rd.

Airport Beach

What to expect: Sandy beach is an open beach with views of the north side of black rock along Kaanapali Beach.
When to go: All months of the year.
Directions: Located between Kaanapali Pkwy and Lower Honoapiilani Rd. You will turn to the ocean side off of Honoapiilani Hwy. onto Kai Ala Dr. Drive past the resort entrances until you see an open parking lot and the beach pavilions. Parking is free in this lot.

Black Rock Beach

What to expect: Sandy beach is an open beach with views of the South side of black rock along Kaanapali Beach. Access to Whalers Village. Watch the sunset cliff dive off of black rock
When to go: All months of the year.
Directions: From Honoapiilani Hwy. Turn onto Kaanapali Pkwy. Beach access parking is spread along Kaanapali Pkwy, but is limited. There is parking in Whalers Village and parking voutures are provided by most shops and restaurants.

Baby Beach

What to expect: Large Sandy beach with views of Molokai, Lanai and Kahoolawe. Calm waters from reef breaking up waves past the reef.
When to go: All months of the year.
Directions: From front street head towards Mala Warf and turn onto Pu'unoa Pl. and park anywhere along the street. There are multiple beach access points along this road.

Lahainla Breakwal

What to expect: Sandy beach with views of Molokai, Lanai and Kahoolawe. Calm waters from reef breaking up waves past the reef. Great beginner surfing here. Generally less sand during the winter months.
When to go: All months of the year.
Directions: From Honoapiilani Hwy. Head west on Shaw St. Turn right and park in the Kamehameha Iki Beach Park parking lot.

Makena State Beach

What to expect: Large secluded sandy beach on the southernmost tip of the island. Get a glimpse of Maui before western development. Fun body surfing and boogie boarding and food trucks.
When to go: All months of the year. Larger waves in the summer months.
Directions: Take Hwy 30, then head south on the N Kihei Rd. Towards Kihei. At the T head south onto Maui Veterans Hwy, until it ends, take the bend right and turn left onto Wailea Alanui Dr. You'll follow this until you reach Makena State Park. Choose from either parking lot.

Hookipa State Beach

What to expect: Windward side beach, calmer in the mornings. Catch the windsurfers in the afternoon. Lots of turtles on the north end of the beach.
When to go: All months of the year. Larger waves in the winter months.
Directions: After passing through Kahului, take Hana Hwy north through the charming Paia town. After passing through Paia, and mama’s fish house, turn left at the signs for Hookipa State Park. You'll enter a one way road heading down to the beach. Park in any of the spaces in the lot or along the road.
